About
Jaxten Burger
Writer. Observer. Reluctant optimist.
I write about the things people feel but rarely say out loud — culture, identity, the quiet weight of everyday life. My work lives somewhere between essay and confession, between argument and elegy.
I grew up paying close attention. To conversations that trailed off. To the way a room changes when someone leaves it. That habit — call it curiosity, call it a failure to look away — became the engine behind everything I write.
My essays have explored masculinity, memory, New York, and the strange grief of watching things disappear. I'm drawn to subjects that resist easy conclusions, and to the kind of writing that earns its ending.
My debut novel, If You Hadn't Asked, is forthcoming. It's a book about two men, two towers, and a question asked too late. I've been working on it for a long time. It's almost ready.
